Our Take on this Item:
This is a new
kit from Ford Racing designed to install an engine start button
from the famed ’06 Ford GT supercar into your 05 – up Mustang or
04 – up F-150. This is a very simple two wire installation!
Detailed instructions are available on how to install this kit
in the Mustangs, but just to show you how versatile this kit is,
we installed one on our 2006 Harley Davidson F-150 project
truck.
We decided
the best location for the engine start button would be in the
existing cigarette lighter hole in the center of the dash under
the radio and climate controls. This was a no-brainer for us
since the F-150 also has a secondary 12V power point on the dash
just to the right of the radio. Using the instructions for the
Mustang as our guide, we removed the cigarette lighter and
replaced it with the Ford GT engine start button. Once we were
happy with the installation of the button, we plugged in the
addition length of wiring harness and routed it through the dash
and back around toward the steering column.
Again,
remember that we are using instructions that Ford Racing
provides for installation in a Mustang as our guide. The
Mustangs and the F-150s use the same circuits or functions with
the ignition switch wiring, but they use completely different
colors of wire. (Thank you very much FoMoCo ;) ). So we pulled
the wiring diagrams for the Mustang and the F-150 to
cross-reference the wiring. Doing this we determined the
correct two wires to splice into to make our engine start button
functional. You will have the choice to keep the standard key
start functional along with the new push button or just so that
the push button must be used to start the vehicle. We elected
to keep the key functioning just as it did before. With this
switch now installed, you simply install the key, turn it to the
ON position, and press the engine start button to start the
truck.
